Onion Vada is a popular South Indian snack made with a batter of lentils and onions. Here's the recipe for Onion Vada:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup urad dal (split black gram)
- 1 cup finely chopped onions
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon English Simple Recipes chopped coriander leaves
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions:
- Wash the urad dal thoroughly and soak it in water for about 4-5 hours. Drain the water completely.
- Grind the soaked dal in a blender to make a smooth batter. Add a little water if needed, but make sure the batter is thick and fluffy.
- Transfer the batter to a bowl and add chopped onions, green chilies, coriander English Simple Recipes leaves, grated ginger, asafoetida, and salt. Mix well.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan or kadai over medium heat.
- Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking, take a small portion of the batter, and shape it into a round flat vada.
- Gently slide the vada into the hot oil and fry them until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides. Fry them in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
- Remove the fried vadas using a slotted spoon and place them on a kitchen towel to absorb excess oil.
- Serve the Onion Vadas hot with coconut chutney, sambar, or any other dipping sauce of your choice.
