Ingredients:
- 1 cup flattened rice (poha)
- 1 cup spinach leaves, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup gram flour (besan)
- 1/4 cup rice flour
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 green chili, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger paste
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
- Rinse the flattened rice (poha) under running water for a few seconds. Drain the English Simple Recipes water and set it aside to soften for about 10 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the soaked poha, chopped spinach, gram flour, rice flour, chopped onion, green chili, ginger paste, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well to form a thick batter. If the batter seems too dry, you can add a little water to adjust the consistency.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan or kadai on medium heat.
- Take a small portion of the batter and shape it into a small round vada using your hands. You can also wet your hands with water to prevent the English Simple Recipes batter from sticking.
- Gently drop the vada into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy. Flip the vada occasionally to ensure even frying.
- Once the vada turns golden brown, remove it from the oil using a slotted spoon and place it on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Repeat the process with the remaining batter until all the vadas are fried.
- Serve the Spinach Pohe Vade hot with green chutney, tamarind chutney, or tomato ketchup as a dipping sauce.
